Why Is Haliburton the Co-Host?
Nash is the regular co-host. Nash is not here. Haliburton — who played alongside LeBron on Team USA in 2024 — is sitting in the chair instead. The Pacers aren’t on anyone’s official finalist list, which is exactly why I can’t stop thinking about it. Haliburton, Pascal Siakam, LeBron on the veteran minimum. That’s the most willing-to-pass top three in NBA history and it would absolutely destroy me that Indiana of all places pulled this off.
I don’t think it happens. But I thought the same thing about Cleveland in 2014 and I was wrong.
Who Are the Real Contenders?
A Western Conference executive said he’d “be stunned” if LeBron picked anyone other than Golden State or Cleveland. The Cavaliers have Donovan Mitchell locked up on a four-year max and Mitchell said he’d embrace a reunion. The Cavaliers math makes sense on paper. The Warriors angle makes sense too — put LeBron in a system that doesn’t need him to carry it, let him play 30 minutes a night, and watch everyone else panic.
The Heat want him back. The 76ers got Jaylen Brown somehow and Maxey and Embiid are both texting him. LeBron went 23-7-7 in these playoffs at 41 years old. Every team has a case and nobody actually knows.
What Happens If He Doesn’t Say It Today?
The cynical read: this is a podcast taping with a promotional clip that drops July 21. LeBron has done this before — shown up somewhere public, generated maximum gravity, then gone completely silent for another two weeks. He is better at this than any NBA executive alive.
