Trick Williams showed up at the SmackDown taping in London on June 23 to explain why he missed the previous week’s show, and the explanation was that he was in Jamaica getting married.

That’s it. That’s the whole thing. According to coverage of the announcement, there was no angle attached, no villain who crashes the reception next week, no ominous music at the end. Just Trick Williams holding a microphone in front of a live crowd and telling them he was in Jamaica marrying Lash Legend because that is what happened.

I don’t follow WWE the way some people do. I watched it as a kid, I catch a clip when it lands in my timeline, and I have a vague sense of the major players. Trick Williams and Lash Legend were people I knew about the way you know a face from the neighborhood — recognize them, root for them, couldn’t tell you their full title history. Somehow this announcement hit me harder than anything else I saw in sports last week.

The details are almost unfairly good. One hundred twenty guests at the Garden of Trident Castle in Port Antonio, Jamaica. Lil Yachty attended because he is Trick’s hype man and of course he is. The officiant was Andre Bolton, Trick’s older brother. Trick wore a white suit from the Miguel Wilson Collection. Lash walked out to music by Heaven, Jamie Foxx’s son. They are honeymooning in Africa when their schedules allow, which is the most quietly romantic qualifier I’ve ever heard attached to a honeymoon.

Lash Legend told People magazine: “We really wanted to give people a trip and a wedding they’ve never experienced before.” She also said their morals and values align seamlessly and that they are truly madly in love. I’m a 26-year-old from Hoboken who has watched every romantic subplot in professional sports implode within eighteen months. I am not supposed to find this moving. I found this moving.

The part that keeps getting me is the announcement itself. Trick Williams married Lash Legend on June 20. He showed up three days later and just told the crowd. He explained his absence like a normal person would — “I was getting married, here’s where, here’s who was there.” No elaborate setup, no weeks of tease. Professional wrestling can turn a handshake into a three-month arc. Trick bypassed all of it because he had a wedding to go to.

They met in NXT. They got engaged in November 2025. The wedding was at a castle in Jamaica and his older brother married them. If you pitched this as a SmackDown storyline, someone would tell you it’s too sweet to be believable.

The WWE US Champion is heading into WWE’s recent European run and the most memorable story out of this whole stretch is that he took a week off for his own wedding. You could spend time thinking about TKO’s billion-dollar machine and what it usually makes room for. Not today.

NXT Great American Bash on The CW airs June 28 — first WWE PLE without a premium subscription requirement. Trick Williams and Lash Legend will presumably both be there, because they are professionals.

Revis is asleep on my couch. I’ve watched this clip four times. I’m genuinely happy for two people I’ve never met, which is not something I expected to type today.
