Brandon Aiyuk called the 49ers “stupid” and “little-ass boys” on Instagram, deleted both videos, and then posted himself in a Commanders hat — and the funniest part is that San Francisco somehow thought this whole thing was going to stay quiet.
The sequence here is genuinely stunning. Per NFL.com’s Grant Gordon, on June 7 Aiyuk posted a 90-second Instagram video captioned “IF YOU SCARED JUST SAY DAT!!” in which he informed the world that the 49ers were “little-ass boys” who needed to “stop running from the bill.” Then on June 9 he followed up with what I can only describe as a clarification nobody asked for: “They mad cause they stupid. They dumb. They mad that they paid me $50 million in eight months and then voided my guarantees for 2027.”
He deleted all of it around June 16. Then on June 22 he posted a Commanders football and started yelling “Go Commanders! Go Commanders! Go Commanders! Raise Hail! Take Command!” And just yesterday, per ESPN, he dared them: “And if I’m crazy or if I’m cappin’, tell them boys cut me today. And I’ll sign with the Commanders tomorrow and we’ll see who’s cappin’.”
This is a disaster and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. For either side.

Let me be clear about what actually happened here, because the voided guarantees aren’t some mystery. The 49ers voided nearly $30 million — the 2026 and 2027 guaranteed money on Aiyuk’s four-year, $120M extension — because he missed mandatory rehab sessions for a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus. Not because John Lynch woke up one morning wanting chaos. Because contract law. When you sign a deal that requires you to show up to rehab and you decide not to show up to rehab, the team has contractual grounds to act. That’s the bill Aiyuk keeps saying they’re “running from.”
The 49ers aren’t running from it. They already collected on it.
Now here’s where I actually have some sympathy for the guy, because the picture gets messier the longer you look at it. Aiyuk was out there speeding past Levi’s Stadium at over 100 mph in December while sitting on the arrest warrant he’s been sitting on ever since. He stopped showing up to the facility. He cut off communication with coaches. The relationship was already dead before the ink dried on the void clause. John Lynch told NFL.com in January that it was “safe to say that Aiyuk has played his last snap with the Niners.” That was six months ago.
The 49ers didn’t wait around. They signed Mike Evans. They signed Christian Kirk. They drafted De’Zhaun Stribling in the second round. They moved on. Brandon Aiyuk apparently did not get the memo until June.
The Commanders thing makes complete sense when you remember that Aiyuk is close friends with Jayden Daniels — they were teammates at Arizona State, and Daniels is now the QB in Washington. So there’s actual logic underneath the chaos. Adam Schefter is already saying San Francisco will likely cut Aiyuk outright when training camp opens. The man might actually be wearing burgundy and gold for real.
I confess I thought this story peaked with the “little-ass boys” video. I was wrong. It peaked with a dude who just said “they stupid” posting a Commanders football on Instagram Stories and daring his current employer to fire him.
He’s probably getting exactly what he wants. At this point, so are the 49ers.
